In 2007, Google sent their Street View car to photograph Brickell, which was nearing the end of a construction boom.

Those photographs show what appeared to be a somewhat sleepy area being transformed. High rises were sprouting across the landscape, including two at 500 Brickell, and three at Icon Brickell across the street. Also under construction were three towers at the Riverfront complex – Wind, Mint, and Ivy, with recently completed developments including the twin-tower Plaza at Brickell complex, the twin-tower Brickell on the River, twin towers at the 1060 Brickell complex, and the Four Seasons tower (completed four years earlier in 2003).

Fast forward to March 2018 when Google sent their Street View camera through the intersection of South Miami Avenue and Southwest 8th Street.

At least 5,000 additional residential units are now either under construction or recently completed within view of this intersection alone, along with hotel and office towers. That’s on top of all the development completed during the last boom.

The new projects that can be seen near this intersection include Brickell City Centre, with a shopping mall, six towers of residential, hotel and retail. Nearby is SLS Lux, Brickell Heights 1 & 2, Solitair Brickell, Brickell Flatiron, 1010 Brickell, 1100 Millecento, Echo Brickell, Panorama Tower, MyBrickell, and others.
